Text Box: Ana Romero’s funeral took place on Wednesday December 10th 2008 in Shelbyville, Kentucky. Finally her body was put to rest and the family started to have closure. About 40 relative and friends attended the funeral service. The event was covered by TV and newspaper media; please follow the following links for their coverage.

Also, it was reported by the Herald Leader that the Franklin Co. Commonwealth Attorney (Larry Cleveland) did not find any criminal wrongdoing by the Jail but that “he is recommending that the jail have increased communications with immigration officials so those awaiting deportation are picked up in a timely manner.” Possible violations of Ana’s civil rights are out of the scope of the C.A. We are now discussing with the Family and their attorneys the C.A.'s findings and the next legal steps about the case.
This very important chapter of closure for the family is finally over, but the Justice for Ana Romero/Stop the Raids and Deportations campaign continues.

Text Box: The Vigil for Justice for Ana Romero, celebrating and honoring her life on the third month anniversary of her death, was held precisely few meters away from the cell where she died with a complete success: the cold 20 degree weather and the remote and threatening location could not stop the 200 people who stood on frigid conditions for two hours to offer their warm determination to achieve Justice for Ana and respect for immigrants. Now will continue our efforts to achieve Justice for Ana, stop the violations of the 48 hours limit on ICE detainer in Kentucky, and contribute nationally to the immediate stop of raids and deportations until in 2009 we achieve just, humane, and realistic Comprehensive Immigration Reform.
